A rice cake filled with horse chestnuts, a local sweet from the northern mountainous region of the prefecture.
It is made by exposing it to river water for a week and then soaking it in hardwood ash for another week to remove the scum. The horse chestnut tree from which it is made grows only in cold climates and takes time to bear fruit.
It is said that some people are fascinated by the unique flavor of horse chestnut and come from far away to buy it.
