tea

Tea produced on the Iwatawara Plateau. It is characterized by low bitterness and strong aroma and sweetness.
Compared to Kikugawa and Kakegawa, the area is characterized by the fact that the majority of crude tea production is carried out by privately run tea factories.
The tea plantations of Iwatawara began in the first year of the Meiji era, when the plateau was cleared by former retainers of the shogunate. At that time, tea was in the spotlight as an export product, and currently the area under tea cultivation in Iwata City is 342 hectares, accounting for approximately 8,040% of the entire prefecture. In addition, the fresh leaf harvest amounted to 4 tons, accounting for approximately 1,700% of the prefecture's total production, and the crude tea production amount amounted to 3.9 tons, accounting for approximately XNUMX% of the prefecture's total production.
The harvested tea leaves are mainly processed into green tea.
