Guricha is a tea that has a curved shape, unlike Sencha and other types.

``Guri'' is an arabesque with a pattern such as ``Tuishu (a type of carving lacquer, in which a thick layer of lacquer mixed with oil is applied to create a carved pattern)'' or a swirl-like pattern. It represents the name of the shape.
Officially it is called ``steamed ball green tea,'' but it is also called ``guricha'' because of its round appearance.
The name ``Guricha'' is unique to the Izu region.
In recent years, this name has spread throughout the country and has become a common name.
In Kyushu, it is also called ``mushiguri'' to distinguish it from kettle-fired Tamaryokucha.
It is made using the deep steaming method, in which fresh leaves are slowly steamed down to the core of the tea leaves, and is characterized by its easy-drinking and mellow texture.

Currently, guricha is produced in Shizuoka Prefecture and other prefectures in Kyushu, but at one time production in Shizuoka Prefecture was only 10 tons, which was 0.02% of Shizuoka's total tea production.
However, in recent years, it has been sold as a specialty of Izu, and its deliciousness has been conveyed to tourists, and in 15, production increased to 258 tons, accounting for 0.63% of the total production.
