Kikugawa tea (deep steamed tea)
Release date: 2024.01.31
tea
Kikugawa tea has a thick mesophyll, and the process of making it takes two to three times longer than the regular steaming process. When brewed, it has a deep green color, but it has a mellow and sweet taste.
It is mainly produced on the Makinohara Plateau, and beautiful well-managed tea plantations are spread out along the Tomei Expressway, JR Tokaido Shinkansen, and Prefectural Route 37.
The history of Kikugawa tea began in the early Meiji era, and in the late 30s it became famous nationwide as the deep-steamed tea village "Kikugawa."
