Shizuoka Honyamacha is a type of tea produced in the basin of the Abe River and its tributary, the Warashina River, which runs through Shizuoka City. It has a long history, and about 800 years ago, Shoichi Kokushi, who is said to have founded Tofukuji Temple in Kyoto, brought tea seeds back from the Song Dynasty in China and sowed them in Ashikubo, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City, near his birthplace. It is said that it began with (Ma).

Shizuoka Motoyama tea is a glossy green color, has a good aroma, and has a bitter, mellow taste, and has earned a reputation as a tea with an elegant flavor.
In his later years, it was presented to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who retired to Sunpu, as an official tea, and was kept in the teapot mansion on the summit of Ikawa Dainichi Pass, where it was used to entertain various feudal lords during the Sankin rotation. It is said that it was also served.
