Yanahime Shrine's annual festival, the Mitsuke Tenjin Naked Festival, is known as the world's strangest festival and has been designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property. Chestnut mochi, a popular dish in Iwata, is offered to shrines to pray for good health and a good harvest, and is an essential part of festivals. It is said that it began around the end of the Edo period, when people made items made from new chestnuts offered to the gods during annual festivals and sold them as souvenirs.
