Shimada
The Makinohara Plateau began to be developed in the early Meiji period, and expanded by farmers, former samurai, and people who used to cross the Oi River, and has now developed into one of the largest tea plantations in Japan. A variety of teas are produced in the Oigawa River basin, including Shimada tea, which has an elegant aroma and beautiful light blue color, Kanaya tea, which has a soft texture and deep aroma, and Kawane tea, which has a good balance of nourishment and sweetness.
