Release date: 2020.03.03

Engaged in social contribution and food education activities through Chinese cuisine

The ``Japan Chinese Cuisine Association Tokai District Western Branch,'' which is comprised of 90 Chinese chefs from western Shizuoka Prefecture, conducts activities aimed at improving the skills of chefs, social welfare and food education, and contributing to the local community. We have been visiting facilities for people with disabilities for about 30 years, and for the past four years we have been inviting children with disabilities, who rarely have the opportunity to eat out, to member restaurants and serving them Chinese food.

Additionally, in collaboration with local elementary schools and PTAs, we conduct food education activities for parents and children twice a year. Using local ingredients, we have adopted a ``taste class'' that teaches the knowledge of the five flavors and the joy of eating using all five senses. ``I'm happy to be able to contribute to society by making food and to make people happy.Members support each other and the bond has deepened,'' says branch manager Mario Yamashita. In the future, he enthusiastically told us that he would like to collaborate with organizations active in other fields, such as Japanese cuisine, and expand our activities while incorporating new perspectives.

Cooking while talking with parents and children not only strengthens the bond between parents and children, but also provides an opportunity to reconsider dietary education at home.

We will invite Mr. Satoru Okabe, head chef of the Chinese restaurant "Houou" at Hotel Crown Palais Hamamatsu, to learn the basics of medicinal dishes and how to put together a menu.

Go to a member's store and have a meal. Even with the same menu, different chefs can discover many things, such as how to use ingredients and seasoning.
