"Learn about and taste ingredients" food city tour held

Release date: 2024.07.10

On Wednesday, November 2023, 11, we held a Food City Tour to "Learn about and Taste Ingredients," connecting the three parties involved in creating the food city: food city workers, producers, and local residents (consumers).

This time, the event was aimed at members of the Iwata Consumer Association, and the theme was "getting to know" and "tasting" local agricultural products, in order to convey the deliciousness and ways to use the agricultural products produced within the jurisdiction of the Nakatoh Agricultural and Forestry Office, as well as to raise awareness.

The tour began by visiting Toyooka Haretate Genki Mura Co., Ltd., where the participants handled some local agricultural products and received an explanation about them.

Next, we visited Smart Agriculture Co., Ltd., and observed the production site of Princess Paprika, a product certified by Shizuoka Food Selection. Paprika is said to be one of the most nutritious vegetables.

At the Japanese restaurant Nakaya (Uenobe, Iwata City), the owner, Kosuke Fukada, a member of the Fujinokuni Food Capital Development Team, offered a tasting and explanation of dishes that made generous use of paprika, and then gave instructions on how to prepare the dish at home.

Participants shared many impressions, such as, "I learned about various ways to use paprika, which makes me want to eat more of it," and "It was good to learn about the nutritional value and effects of paprika. I've only ever stir-fried paprika before, so I'd like to try the cooking method I learned today right away."

I believe that the lively exchange of opinions between producers, workers, and tour participants strengthened cooperation between the three parties and led to the creation of a food capital.
