Release date: 2018.03.23

A group of young tea farmers in Ryokawachi. Promoting tea and Japanese black tea inside and outside the prefecture

Green Eight, which started with eight farmers, is a base tea factory that accepts raw leaves from individual farmers in the Ryokawachi area of Shimizu Ward, Shizuoka City, and processes them. However, by the time Hiroki Hojo inherited the business from his predecessor, the changing times had led to a decline in tea consumption, making it difficult to manage the tea factory alone. So, three friends in their 8s decided to take a new direction and started producing Japanese black tea with added value that no other company could offer, and began to develop into a 30th industry. A portion of the tea factory was renovated and a ``Green Eight Café'' was added to the facility, and PR activities included actively exhibiting at events both within and outside the prefecture.

Green Eight's Japanese black tea, which has no bitterness, has a good reputation and is popular at events at department stores and other places. He says he has had more opportunities to receive calls from other companies. In addition, tours such as ``Tea Field Hiking'' are jointly planned with travel agencies, with the aim of attracting visitors to the Ryogouchi area not only from Shizuoka Prefecture but also from Tokyo and Nagoya. ``In the future, I would like to consider inbound tourism,'' he says of his dreams.

We want everyone from children to the elderly to drink it casually, regardless of the occasion. We want people to know the charm of Ryogouchi tea. The Japanese black tea was born from this idea, and we were particular about the package design.

``I think having a cafe will help young people and women understand the work of tea,'' says Hiroki Hojo, CEO.

During the new tea season, you can feel the atmosphere of a tea factory while sitting in the cafe. We also have a tea menu and sweets for children.
